A certified pre-owned car is a type of used car. However, certified pre-owned cars must pass a rigorous inspection process to make sure they’re still in top condition before being sold again. This makes pre-owned cars a step above used cars, which typically don’t have to pass much inspection beyond making sure the vehicle still works.
BMW’s Certified program is meant to give you peace of mind when choosing a pre-owned vehicle. Although these cars have been owned before, they must pass an extensive three-step testing process before being eligible for our dealerships again.
First, the car must have more than 300 miles but less than 60,000 miles on its odometer in order to be eligible for our Certified program. We also make sure the car has genuine OEM BMW parts and up-to-date mileage and maintenance records.
Secondly, we inspect the vehicle top-to-bottom by a team of expert technicians to make sure it’s up to BMW’s standards. This includes the car’s performance and safety features.
Third, after its parts have been confirmed to be in top condition, we’ll take the vehicle out on the road to see how it performs in action. If it passes this final road test, we’ll start the process of getting it back in the dealership to find a new home.
