What Does TPMS Mean?

TPMS stands for Tire Pressure Monitoring System, and it uses tire pressure sensors to track the air pressure of your tire. Learn more at Rallye BMW about how a TPMS can make it much easier to avoid tire issues and improve vehicle handling on Syosset roads. Contact us today to find out more!

What Does the Tire Pressure Monitoring System Do?

The purpose of a tire pressure monitoring system is to track the pressure inside your tires and alert you if the levels drop too low. If it senses one or more of your vehicle’s tires isn’t at the recommended pressure, the light will turn on or flash on your BMW dashboard so you know to add air to your BMW X7 SAV® or your BMW 3 Series sedan. It’s smart to address low tire pressure right away, since underinflated tires can cause issues including:

  • A flat tire or blowout
  • Skidding and excessive tire wear
  • Poor traction and handling
  • Higher fuel consumption rates
  • Decreased load carrying capability

Both over- and under-inflation of tires can lead to a host of unwanted issues for drivers on %%target_ctiy_2%% roads. On the other hand, a properly inflated tire will:

  • Reduce tread movement thereby increasing the life of the tire
  • Reduce rolling resistance which will increase vehicle efficiency
  • Increase water dispersion which decreases the likelihood of hydroplaning

To find out what the proper tire pressure is for your vehicle, consult your owner’s manual.

Easily Take Care of Your Tires

Proper tire inflation helps to reduce the risk of accidents on the road, and can prolong the life of your tires over time, and the TPMS available in BMW models make it virtually painless. It’s also easy to adjust your tire pressure at a gas station, a service center, or even in some cases with a bicycle pump. If it turns out you have a leak in your tire or you’ve gotten a flat, visit the BMW Tire Center to easily find the replacement tires you need!
